ABOUT US

Crabtree Farms was founded in 1998 and developed out of a public/private partnership to renew urban agriculture. The mission of Crabtree Farms is to promote research & education in sustainable agriculture. Crabtree Farms serves the greater Chattanooga community through on-site education and off-site advocacy programs in our two program priority areas: Buy Fresh Buy Local and Farm Education.

Crabtree drives community food system education through promoting locally grown and produced provisions in the Chattanooga region with a "What's Ripe" monthly email, quarterly newsletter, farm events, outreach booths and a local food guide called "Tastebuds". Farm-To-School and adult education programs teach the importance of healthy living and sustainable agriculture through hands-on demonstrations of farming and gardening on-site at our Urban Farm. Programs include: Future Farmer Internships, Farmer-For-A-Day, Community garden training, Farm Field Days for kids and tours for all ages. On-site education takes place on our Urban Farm- the heart and soul of Crabtree Farms.

Successes of the past three years include:
  • Sprouting an awesome Farm-To-School program that educated over 700 area students in 2009,
  • Dramatically increasing awareness of eating local food through networking, events, outreach booths and memberships (over 600 families in two years). Both of these accomplishments highlight sustainable gardening and eating practices, resulting in a healthier, more active Chattanooga.

Crabtree Farms is located near downtown Chattanooga, in the Clifton Hills neighborhood. For directions, please click here.
