COMMUNITY GARDENS

Community Garden Opening Day 2002 Crabtree Farms hosts, on-site, a 1 acre Community Garden. The Community Garden has forty-one plots available for rental to the community. Launched in 2001, the Community Garden at Crabtree Farms is open to all ages and gardening levels.

Becoming a Community Gardener

For a one-time seasonal fee, each gardener rents a 200 square foot plot and is provided access to tools, compost, and water. Staff members and volunteers work with gardeners to share planting tips and organic gardening techniques. Many varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers are planted by the gardeners.

Crabtree Farms' Community Garden is the largest Community Garden open to the public in Chattanooga. In keeping with the sustainable mission, the Community Garden is organic, meaning only natural pest control may be applied. Plots are tilled at the beginning of the season, and all other work is performed by the Gardeners. Community Garden 2002

The WorkShare Program requires a donation of 24 volunteer hours during the nine months of the Community Garden season. The volunteer time can be spent at special events, in the greenhouse, in the office, out in the field, etc. The staff will work with you to determine opportunities appropriate for you. You will receive a monthly volunteer email outlining specific opportunities that volunteers are needed.
